EMILIO: A LITTLE BOY, A BIG FIGHT

Emilio is just five years old. At an age where most children are learning letters, making new friends, and getting ready for kindergarten, his days look very different. Instead of playgrounds and classrooms, his world is filled with hospital rooms, medical equipment, and long conversations about treatments he is too young to fully understand. His journey began even before he took his first breath.
Born prematurely at just 28 weeks, Emilio entered life already fighting. The first months of his existence were spent inside the NICU, surrounded by monitors, machines, and constant care. While other babies went home after birth, Emilio stayed in the hospital for six long months. When he finally left, he didn’t come home like most children. He required a tracheostomy and a ventilator—support systems that became part of his daily life. Even then, he continued to grow, surprising doctors and bringing hope to his family with every small milestone. But now, a new challenge has arrived. Liver cancer.
The diagnosis has changed everything once again. Emilio has begun chemotherapy, and doctors have also discussed the possibility of a liver transplant. His path ahead is uncertain and filled with repeated hospital visits, specialized care, and exhausting travel between Reno and UCSF. Life for his family has reshaped itself completely.
His mother has stepped away from work to care for him full-time. His father is adjusting his schedule to be present for treatments, appointments, and the long hours of chemo sessions. At the same time, they are doing everything they can to maintain stability and comfort for Emilio’s older sister, who is only nine years old and trying to understand a world that suddenly feels heavier. Through all of this, Emilio remains a quiet symbol of resilience.
Even on difficult days, there are glimpses of his spirit—small smiles, moments of curiosity, and the kind of strength that seems far too big for such a small body. His journey is not just about illness. It is about a child who has spent his entire life fighting, and a family who refuses to let go of hope. And right now, more than anything, they need support, love, and prayers to carry them through the unknown days ahead. 🤍🙏✨
