At the shelter, people often walked past Duke without stopping.

A large pit bull with scars across his face and shoulders—
to many, he looked like trouble.

Like something to avoid.

But the volunteers saw something different.

Every night, when the shelter grew quiet, Duke would do something no one expected.

He gently picked up a worn stuffed toy…
and carried it to the kennel beside his.

Inside was a tiny puppy, rescued from the streets.

Frightened. Alone. Crying through the night.

Until Duke arrived.

He placed the toy close—carefully, almost tenderly.

And somehow…

That was enough.

The puppy stopped crying.
Curled up.
And finally slept.
