No one witnessed the very beginning of the story. But a roadside security camera captured what happened next—and the images have touched hearts everywhere.

After being struck by a passing car, a young deer lay badly injured on the side of the road, barely moving. Cars continued to rush past as cold rain began to fall, leaving the helpless animal alone in the darkness.

Then, from the nearby trees, a thin stray dog slowly approached.
