TWENTY SURGERIES, ONE LITTLE BOY, AND A MOTHER WAITING TO HOLD HIM AGAIN

There are moments in a mother’s life that feel like they split time in two — before and after letting go. Early this morning was one of those moments for Raedyn’s family.
A young boy, already far too familiar with hospital corridors, walked once again through the doors for his twentieth surgery. For most children, childhood is measured in birthdays, school days, and small adventures. For Raedyn, it has been measured in procedures, recovery rooms, and the courage it takes to face things no child should ever have to understand. His mother sat in the waiting room as he was taken away. She did not know how to fully process the weight of what was happening. She only knew that when he returned, there was a possibility he would not look the same — a reality that no parent can ever truly prepare for, no matter how many times it comes. The hours leading up to the surgery were especially difficult. Raedyn was tired, overwhelmed, and irritable in the way only a child under pressure can be. There were moments when he pushed people away, as if instinctively trying to protect himself from what he knew was coming.
And yet, even in that fear, there were brief flashes of tenderness. He offered his mother small smiles — fragile, intentional moments that felt like comfort given back to her instead of taken from him. It was as if, despite everything, he understood her pain too.
Eventually, the moment came. The doors closed. And all that remained was waiting. Inside the operating room, a surgical team works carefully, doing everything possible to prevent complications and ensure safety. Outside, time stretches differently. Every minute feels heavier than the last.
His family holds onto hope — that the anesthesia goes smoothly, that his body responds well, and that when he opens his eyes again, his spirit is still intact, still bright, still him. This is a journey no family chooses, but one they walk with unimaginable strength. Now, all they can do is wait… and pray. Please keep Raedyn in your thoughts today. 💔
