The Man Who Became Home for a Tiny Monkey

Every day, little Punch wakes up knowing he isn’t alone. Someone is always there beside him, quietly making sure his small world feels safe again.
When Punch was born, his story began with heartbreak. The baby Japanese macaque was rejected by his mother, leaving the fragile newborn without the warmth and comfort every young animal needs to survive.
But one person stepped in without hesitation.
His caretaker, Kosuke Shikano.
Shikano gently began raising Punch by hand, feeding him and keeping him warm during the vulnerable first days of his life. To help calm the frightened baby, he gave him something simple—a soft, fluffy blanket.

It quickly became Punch’s tiny source of comfort.
Whenever the world felt too big, the little monkey would wrap his arms around the blanket, holding it close like a small piece of safety he could carry everywhere.
But caring for Punch is about far more than feeding and warmth.
Every day, Shikano carefully monitors his health, patiently guides his routine, and slowly introduces him to other monkeys so he can grow into a confident member of the group.

The moments people see in photos—the tiny monkey cuddling his blanket, the quiet and tender scenes that melt hearts—exist because of the unseen devotion behind them.
Because someone chose to show up every single day.
For Punch, who once felt abandoned, learning to trust again may be the greatest gift of all.
Sometimes home isn’t a place.
Sometimes home is simply the person who stays.
