A striking wildlife encounter unfolded in the Salish Sea when a pod of orcas was observed engaging in coordinated hunting behavior near several whale watching vessels. The presence of the predators drew close attention from observers on the water as the situation developed over several minutes.

During the encounter, a seal reportedly made a sudden escape attempt by jumping onto the stern of a nearby boat, seemingly seeking temporary refuge as the orcas circled in the surrounding waters. Witnesses described the pod remaining in the area for approximately fifteen minutes before gradually moving away.

Orcas (Orcinus orca) are known for their advanced intelligence, strong social structures, and cooperative hunting strategies. Such encounters in coastal waters are not uncommon in regions like the Salish Sea, where rich marine ecosystems bring together both predator and prey in close proximity to human activity.
